SYNERGY - love when I see it working!

above: picture from today!

: when two or more agents (I'll say runners) working together to produce a result not obtainable by any of the agents (runners) individually.

February has been the month of "help me get out". Central New York is a snowy place, I believe record snowy this year - over 140 inches so far! By the time February comes, many have had it...including some of the amazing whole running girls who have battled through many feet of snow in the trails (sorry, I trick you to do it sometimes!), slush, wind, below zero - and then comes February. Damn this winter!

But in the past week what I am seeing is emails on the yahoo group go back and forth to force each other out and keep them on their path. If you are committed to a group, the chances of you getting out have doubled - can't let your running buddies down can you? And getting outside is by far more beneficial to your all well being then the surrounds of a gym filled with germs - ugh!

Sounding like a broken record "I promise, the pay offs in the spring will be all worth the snow, the ice, the whatever is out there today...just embrace it..yada yada yada" But it is all true. Bring it on, is the attitude. Take it all in, whatever the day may bring. No such thing as bad weather, only bad gear! When you run together, its that much more powerful (Indian runs, take turns in single file taking the wind and pelting ice chips...).

"Individually, we are one drop, together we are an ocean"

As I have said before, this Whole Running group of amazing runners is more than just the run. Its the synergy and strength which is a metaphor of life - interdependence - yes, we can be independent runners, but put us together and watch the fire run through the snow!

Thinking about going out in this windy weather warning today? I'm sure, someone will join in if you put it out there!

So, lets have some feedback on your teamwork out there!

  1. Jill, Thank you for sharing your love of the outdoors and teaching us to embrace the snowy trails. We know "they will make us stronger." Over the many hours and miles of slugging through the snow we have bonded, the beginners and the experienced, each taking turns encouraging and cheering on the other. It's been a winter to remember!

  2. Jill, synergy would be the perfect definition of this morning's run. It started with emails & texts around 5:45 contemplating whether the weather was just too crappy to get out. Laura decided to get dressed just in case someone showed up. So Andrea decided to walk up to her house. Deb and I figured we might as well show up because we were awake and dressed and Betty & Lia were there when we got there. It was brutal when we started but someone decided we should just get a loop in since we were out. Next we knew we were at 8.3 and then someone talked us into rounding it out to 10. None of us would have run this morning without the commitment to meet and none of us would have kept going in that snowstorm without the company. We even ran backward for a while because the wind was so strong!! It turned out to be a great morning.

  4. Today I ran my first trail! What a blast. We ran for about a hour and I think I smiled the entire time. It was challenging but I can't wait to get back out there. I follow your blog and now I really understand why you love it so much. This is is the start of a new chapter for me and I can't wait. I wish I lived a little closer so I could train with you. Your an inspiration to me.
