Good to have some DOWNTIME to RECHARGE.....

I have been away from the blog for awhile. Downtime, recharge time, is something needed to rekindle the spirits. August was my volunteer month for running and such and I took some time back to see what needed to be improved and recharged.

If you are a Mother or Father with school aged children, a teacher....etc...its not December to January that is the only "New Year". For me, September is my New Year. So August is a time to look back at the year and reflect on what went well, what needs improvement and what is "right on".

Racing and racing one after another becomes an addiction - a good addiction in my eyes. compared to so many others. However, its always the balance that is trying to be maintained. We can give to ourselves, but there is also a time that can help you recharge by giving back. In August I crewed, volunteered, and put on some social get-together runs to help others - I LOVED IT. I loved looking from the outside in. By doing that, and helping other, I learned so much more about myself, and most importantly RECHARGED - yes physically, but more importantly, MENTALLY.

Looking forward to revisiting and writing on the blog soon. Right now, getting ready to take off and CHARGE at my next venture. That will be written up soon!
What is your recharge time? Do you have one? Do you need one?

  1. jill, thank you for posting about volunteering and giving back! ultrarunners know all too well that it can't happen for us without help, we all need to take time to get involved in someone else's race experience! it is such a blessing and definitely one of the ways i renew my passion for this sport when i am feeling lack luster! go time for NC24! run like it matters!

  2. Jill, my first ultra at the GLER 100K was the best experience I have had to date. Thank you so much for all of your help in crewing for me and for giving me your socks :) I have found running to be my greatest tool to decompress, re-center, and re-fuel for life's adventures. Oprah Winfrey quoted "Running is a metaphor for life, you get out of it what you put into it" It's so refreshing to see the number of people that love to give back. Thanks again for helpinh to make my first ultra marathon the best experience it can be.
