When you are running in tricky, packed snow in the woods...the gps just needs to be left behind and a regular watch for time is the best. The benefits in running this will far out way the road in many ways.
These tough chics ran the woods yesterday and it was not easy. Infact, today, many had sore muscles in places they've never had before...and I say to that "that is awesome"! Especially the core (as I like to say, its all about the core, the heart of the matter...). We focused on form...shorter stride, standing tall and still keeping the upper body nice and loose. There is a tendency to want to tense up due to the fear of loosing your footing, falling...etc etc...that doesn't help. Light on your feet, easy does it.....
After the first loop I could tell the girls were getting the swing of it. And to top it off...in cloudy Syracuse ...the sun actually came out from the beginning of our run to the end. After we ran, the sun literally hid for the rest of the day!
Today, the snow is slushy and messy...we utilized a precious moment...took advantage of a day that hopefully will come back again soon!
It is such a joy to see the progress in all these women. Wow, to know that some have done their first ultra the past year, marathons, trail races....and most important, they are enjoying the process...because, it is all a process....there is no finish line - just keep moving but enjoy where you are when you are there.
"Habit is necessary. It is the habit of having habits of turning a trail into a rut, that must be incessantly fought against if one must remain alive" Edith Wharton
